Preservation Delaware Conference
Preservation Delaware, Inc., the organization dedicated to the preservation of Delaware’s architectural heritage, will host its annual conference on October 23-24, 2026. The hybrid virtual and in-person conference is the state’s premier gathering for historic preservationists, architects, planners, and community advocates.
Featuring a range of regional historic preservation topics, the conference will provide a forum to discuss ongoing revitalization efforts, and strategies for protecting Delaware’s cultural heritage.
The two-day event will feature a free virtual session on October 23 and a separate in-person convening on October 24 at the historic Buena Vista Conference Center, located at 661 S. DuPont Highway, New Castle, Delaware, one of the many sites owned and operated by the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs (HCA).
On Friday, October 23, HCA’s Kara A. Briggs, Architectural Historian from the State Historic Preservation Office, will be among this year’s virtual speakers, presenting research on the life and work of Delaware architect Wallace E. Hance, who designed and built over 300 buildings during his nearly 30-year professional career.
The October 24 in-person conference at Buena Vista is a ticketed event that will feature a panel discussion on the state of preservation in Delaware over the last 250 years and the challenges facing preservation today. Courtney Lynahan, HCA’s Curator of Historic Structures, will also present information about ongoing preservation work at the Buena Vista estate.
Sessions on both days of the conference require registration. October 23 virtual sessions are free. Fees for the in-person October 24 in-person conference at the Buena Vista estate are $25 for members and $35 for non-members and walk-ins.
